He’s back.
After firing Mike Budenholzer during the Bucks’ embarrassing first round ass kicking, during which Mike was dealing with his brother’s death, Bucks hired Adrian Griffin and had…the third best record in the NBA.
He didn’t even make it to All Star Break.
And now we have the return of Doc Rivers. Some say Doc Rivers is a choke artist coach, as evidenced by the amount of 3-1 series leads his team have blown. Can he coach? I think Doc is a very fine coach…for the regular season.
Everyone is blaming and firing coaches, but make no mistake, all of these changes get run by Giannis.
Changing coaches before All Star break is risky. It doesn’t give you a ton of time left in the regular season to learn plays, offensive and defensive philosophies etc. I can’t help but be reminded of David Blatt when he coached the Cavs.
But maybe this was needed; big risks mean big rewards. Time will tell, but know this – should the Bucks fail, do not blame the coaches: blame Giannis. He signs off on these decisions; he could have told the front office to keep Jrue, Budenholzer etc. and good chance they listen. Let’s hope this gamble pays off.
