The Houston Rockets are tied for 2nd seed in the West. Is this a fluke? Is this a comeback?
Are we legit?
I will admit, for a bit, I thought we definitely did have an easy schedule…but still, it’s not like we have a superstar, or even any all stars, and we are a young team, and young teams can potentially lose to ANY one.
But I am starting to become a believer. Are the games ugly? Yes. We are the #2 defensive team and we play like it, gritty, hard nosed basketball. You will see games where we barely break a hundred points. We muck things up, slow things down. Gone are the fun Harden days of hero ball and iso highlights, this is a team where 4 or 5 guys will have about 11 points each and contribute in different ways. Each night it may be a different few guys who have it.
We don’t take (or especially MAKE) a lot of threes, and it gives a very early 2000s kind of vibe when you watch the games, but I have seen enough to really believe. Because we don’t rely on one or two main guys, it makes it hard for teams to have a focal point. Double Sengun and Jalen or Jabari may go off.
And Amen Thompson, wow. Just wow. Our guy who functions as a backup PG a lot is often seen stepping up on opponent drives that are not his man, and throwing shots into the stands like he is a 6’11 PF, and it is a sight to behold. Combined with his speed, and the way he fights through screens, to my eyes, he looks like the best non-big man defender outside of maybe Jrue Holiday. This kid is SPECIAL.
When we were the 2 seed a few weeks ago, haters called it fake news, but here we are, right back, and I have to say, this team looks legit.
Do I think we stay a top 3 seed? Probably not, but even making the playoffs will show the rebuild has been somewhat successful, and I am here for it.
